They thought it would be fun to use the boy as a punching bag to play wrestling. Varnes and his friends -- ages 14 and 15 -- took turns hitting the kid with closed fists in the chest and stomach. Varnes, surely a product of inbreeding, also admitted to hanging the boy upside down in a closet by his ankles with a belt, dropping him on the ground, and lifting the baby above his head and slamming him onto a bed.

When Wright got home from school, the kids were still beating on the child. Believing her son was the Second Coming of Rocky Marciano, she let it continue until she thought it got too rough. Then she told the boys to stop -- indicating that while she may be the worst mother in South Carolina, she does have a very small drop of maternal instinct.

The next day she found the baby listless. Or as she later told a doctor, he "looked like he wanted to die."

So she called an ambulance. When the baby arrived at the hospital, he was nearing respiratory failure. The child had five rib fractures, air and blood in his thorax, multiple lacerations of his liver, spleen and pancreas. He was also in shock with a fractured skull.

Wright tried to explain that the baby must have fallen. But since doctors aren't nearly as dumb as Wright and her friends, they weren't buying.

Wright and Varnes have both been charged in adult court with child abuse. The two other boys have been charged as juveniles
